More than Just Spanish Classes
The Cooperativa Spanish School at Lake Atitlan in Guatemala has a wide range of interesting, exciting, and educational programs and activities for their students here at Lake Atitlan. All of the activities at the Spanish school are included in your course fee. Only Saturday excursions may include a small fee for guides or equipment rental. Evening activities at the school include: documentaries, conferences and salsa dancing lessons. Conferences and demonstrations on a variety of subjects including politics, Guatemalan history, problems of indigenous people, local poetry, handicrafts and current affairs. Weekend activities include excursions to neighboring towns and markets, hiking the scenic volcanic region with lake vistas, kayaking on the lake, or zip-line canopy tours. Participation in these activities gives students the opportunity to explore further the history, traditions and realities that have shaped San Pedro La Laguna. Students can allow themselves to be absorbed into an intricate and complex ancient culture situated in an area of tranquil acceptance and overwhelming beauty.
Activity Schedule
Tuesdays
Conferences or demonstrations on a variety of subjects including politics, Guatemalan history, problems of indigenous people, local poetry, handicrafts and current affairs.
Wednesdays
Movie or video documentaries with Guatemalan or Central American themes.
Thursdays
Everyone salsa! We provide fun and stress free salsa dance lessons every Thursday. If you have never danced before or are practically a pro come on out and have some fun with your classmates and teachers.
Fridays
Accompany your instructor into town and help deliver food and basic necessities your tuition helps provide to local families in need. We also have a twice monthly fiesta and BBQ Friday nights to raise money for our educational projects. Donations of money or school supplies are gladly accepted at the fiesta.
Saturdays
Every Saturday we offer excursions which include things like; trips to local markets, Zip-line adventures, kayaking on Lake Atitlan, climbing Volcano San Pedro and more. There may be a small fee for guides or equipment rental on these outings.
